New Scottish Radio Station

Kirsty Baird through her toys out the pram when she couldn’t get any of the commercial radio stations play the Hanley and the Baird single Follow the Rainbows. She was in good company though as there are a host of great Scottish bands that are not getting air play so she decided to do something about it.

Chief radio was started on the 27th of July 2020 with the plan to provide a platform for unsigned bands from anywhere in the world but in particular from around Scotland. In 6 weeks they have featured Joshua Grant who had a number one single in the official Scottish charts with Edinburgh. They featured Cameron Ledwidge who had a number 11 song called Sometimes in love and also other artists like Forest Looper and Abby K who is from Seattle. They are building a reputation for playing established Scottish acts like Tide Lines and Skipinish who get very little if any commercial air play also.

In 5 weeks they have given away 8 Alexa speakers to care homes across Scotland so that carers can put the Rock the Carehome show on for the residents. It’s a show full of 50s and 60s tunes.

Chief Radio is a part of Sing in the City and community is very much at the heart of all that they do.
